Snow? It’s not problem!
Lotus Cup Eastern Europe the first Hungarian organized European series, the is preparing for its second season.
The organizer Egon Burkus, head of GFS Motorsport is not wasting his time, he is testing even in winter time with the youngest member of the team, Benedek Major, who won the 1.6 and Endurance championships with his custom built Lotus in 2011.
Though it is risky in winter time, the icy and snowy race track is waiting for testers. As the video shows this wasn’t a problem for the drivers:

Az első magyar szervezésű európai sorozat, a Lotus Kelet Európa Kupa (Lotus Cup Eastern Europe) a második idényére készül.
A szervező, a GFS Motorsport vezetője, Burkus Egon nem tart üresjáratot, télen is tesztel a csapat legfiatalabb tagjával, Major Benedekkel, aki 2011-ben egy egyedi építésű Lotus-al megnyerte az 1600ccm-es és az Endurance bajnokságot.
Persze télen ez rizikó, bármikor jeges, havas pálya fogadhatja a tesztelni vágyókat, de mint az az alábbi videóból látható, nem zavarta a versenyzőket.

The last race of the Lotus Cup Eastern Europe series took part in a beautiful environment, at Salzburgring.
Though the weather was very cold, the rain stayed away from the track.
Markus Nikowitsch reached the best results at the timing on Friday, overtaking Tomas Kusy and Tamás Vizin. There was a new entrant to the Cup, it was Stefan Schafhauser’s first weekend at Lotus CEE.

On an unusual manner both competitions of the series took part on Friday. There was no one to gain upon Marcus Nikowitsch during the first etap and he won the 11th race of the series of this year. Tomas Kusy arrived to the second place, and Stefan was the third to finish on his first race. Egon Burkus and Klaus Requat weren’t able to start the competition, and Tamás Vizin hasn’t crossed the finish line either.
Marcus Nikowitsch started the second race on Saturday, where he finished a day before. After a good start he managed to increase his advantage continuously, but during an outrunning he lost control over his car and slipped out of the track. A chance opened for Tomas Kusy, who used it very well and won the second race. Tamás Vizin started from the back, but he finished the competition on the second place nonetheless. Performing a superb drive, Stefan Schafhauser gained the third place on Klaus Requat.
A Lotus Cup Eastern Europe sorozat utolsó verseny a festői környezetben elterülő Salzburgring-en került megrendezésre. Rendkívül hideg idő fogadta a versenyzőket, de szerencsére az eső elkerülte a pályát.
A pénteki időmérő edzésen Markus Nikowitsch érte el a legjobb időeredményt, megelőzve Tomas Kusy-t és Vizin Tamást. Új indulót is köszönthetett a mezőny, Stefan Schafhauser először vett részt Lotus CEE versenyen.
Rendhagyó módon a sorozat mindkét versenye szombaton zajlott. Az első versenyen Nikowitsch nem talált legyőzőre, és jelentős előnnyel megnyerte az idei tizenegyedik futamot. A második helyen Tomas Kusy ért célba, első versenyén Schafhauser pedig a harmadik lett. Burkus Egon és Klaus Requat a versenyen nem tudott elindulni, és Vizin Tamás sem jutott el a célig.
A szombati második versenyen Nikowitsch ott folytatta, ahol délelőtt abbahagyta. Jól rajtolt, és folyamatosan növelte az előnyét, ám egy lekőrözésnél elvesztette az uralmat az autója felett és kicsúszott a pályáról. Tomas Kusy előtt megnyílt a lehetőség, és élt is vele, megnyerte a második futamot. Vizin Tamás a mezőny végéről rajtolva a második helyen ért célba. Schafhauser nagyszerűen autózva újra a harmadik lett Klaus Requat előtt.

The 5th weekend of the Lotus Cup Eastern Europe took part at Hungaroring.
It seems that the series of bad luck just wouldn’t want to end for Peter Entenfellner and Andreas Holzleithner, they had to skip the race again on Friday because of motor problems.
The same happened to Moritz Hannapel, who’s black Lotus has failed too on Friday. Markus Nikovitsch ran the laps with his Exige for this time as well, and on this weekend he made a great progress, he has driven the best times continuously. He even won the qualification followed by Kusy.
Kusy switched in a higher speed on Saturday and won the race with a 0,5 seconds before Markus Nikowitsch, performing a magnificient competition. It has been a superb battle! Klaus Requat and Egon Burkus struggled a while, but after a spin Burkus finished fourth.
Tamás Vizin had to face transmission problems during the race, but he managed to reach the finish line, though not with his usual speed. Young Benedek Major was forced to end the race in the 3rd lap with his Lotus 1.6. The race on Sunday started with a reversed grid, so it took 2 laps to Markus Nikovitsch to take over the first place. Because of the transmission change Vizin wasn’t able keep up with the others.
He was gained upon by Kusy as well, who finished second.
Markus managed to win for the first time in the season. Neither Benedek Major, nor Klaus Requat was able to finish the competition. Egon Burkus landed on the fourth place this day too.
The last weekend of the series will take part in October at Salzburgring, in Austria.
Szombaton a cseh, vasárnap az osztrák versenyző állhatott fel az őszi Hungaroring kupa dobogójának legfelső fokára.
A Lotus Cup Eastern Europe ötödik hétvégéjére került sor a Hungaroring-en. Peter Entenfellner és Andreas Holzleithner pech-szériája nem akar véget érni, ismét motorproblémákkal kellett már pénteken feladni a hétvégét. Így járt Moritz Hannappel is, a fekete Lotus-a szintén pénteken hibásodott meg. Markus Nikowitsch viszont újra az Exige-ével kőrözhetett, sőt, ezen a hétvégén jelentős fejlődést mutatott a JP Racing (Nikowitsch és Requat), folyamatosan a legjobb időket autózta a csapat. Az időmérést Markus Nikowitsch megnyerte, Tomas Kusy egy másodperccel maradt le Tőle, ami szokatlanul nagy különbség.
A szombati versenyen azonban Kusy nagyobb tempóba kapcsolt, és nagyszerű versenyt bemutatva, 0,5 mp-el nyert Markus Nikowitsch előtt. Ugyan Nikowitsch többször is az élen állt, de megpördült. Kusy ügyesebben osztotta be a gumikat és minimális előnyét a célig megtartotta. Klaus Requat és Burkus Egon sokáig küzdött, de Burkus egy kipördülés után csak a negyedik helyen ért be. Vizin Tamás végig küzdött a technikával, a váltóval akadt problémája, de sikeresen célba ért, igaz tempója elmaradt a megszokottól. A fiatal Major Benedek az 1,6-os Lotus-al a 3. körben kényszerült kiállni.
Burkus Egon: “Nagyon jól éreztem magam a futamon, ez egy jó kis kikapcsolódás a sok szervezési feladat közben. Meg ez inkább amolyan teszt féle volt mivel ezt az autót egy törött autóból építettük újjá és így inkább azt figyeltem elsősorban hogy viselkedik az autó. Amúgy egy nagyon jó kis futam volt és ezúton is nagyon szeretnék gratulálni a külföldi sporttársaknak akik a dobogón végeztek.”
Vizin Tamás: “Sajnos a tegnapi szabadedzésen elromlott az autó sebességváltója, amit egy utcai autóba való váltóval tudtunk csak pótolni. Sajnos így kellett nekivágni a versenynek így csak próbáltam menni ahogy tudok, hátha így is meg tudok fogni néhány ellenfelet. Sajnos ez a váltó sem működött tökéletesen, nem nagyon tudtam kapcsolni a fokozatokat.Negyedikbe tudtam berakni és nagyon sokáig így mentem. Aztán próbáltam játszani a motor fordulattal és vissza tudtam kapcsolni hármasba, és így köröztem. Valószínű inkább, hogy a kuplung szerkezet lehet a hibás. Most remélem, a fiúk meg tudják javítani az autót és a holnapi futamon tudok egy jót versenyezni. De ami még ennél is sokkal fontosabb számomra a hétvégén, hogy holnap a hosszútávú versenyen jól működjön az autó és sikeresen szerepeljünk, ahol majd apukámmal indulok egy csapatban.”
A vasárnapi futam fordított sorrenddel indult, így is Markus Nikowitsch számára csak két kör kellett hogy az élre álljon, eddig tudta vele Vizin Tamás tartani a lépést. Vizin váltócsere miatt, utcai váltóval nem tudta a lépést tartani az élmezőnnyel. Tomas Kusy is meg tudta előzni, és a második helyen ért célba, sokáig közeledett Nikowitsch-ra, de már nem tudta beérni.
Markus Nikowitsch ezzel idei első győzelmét szerezte, a kezdeti nehézségeket kiküszöbölte a JP Racing, és felvette a sorozat élmenőinek tempóját. A versenyből ismét kiállt Major Benedek, és ezúttal Klaus Requat sem jutott el a célig. Vizin Tamás a harmadik helyen ért célba, Burkus Egon ismét a negyedik lett.
A sorozat utolsó hétvégéje az ausztriai Salzburgring-el kerül megrendezésre októberben.
Vizin Tamás: “Két vagy három körrel a vége előtt eltűnt a harmadik fokozat a sebességváltóból és utána nem tudtam már igazán jót menni, így ahogy tegnap is csak próbáltam, tartani a lépést az ellenfelekkel, de ezzel a hosszú áttételezésű utcai váltóval nem lehet labdába rúgni.”
Major Benedek: “A terv az volt, hogy a fékek bekoptatása miatt megyek néhány kört, de aztán sajnos az egyenesben elrepült a tető az autóról így ki kellett állnom a versenyből.”
Kusy vs Vizin – Pannoniaring
The 4th weekend of the Lotus Cup Eastern Europe meant a step forward for the cup, regards to the 9 cars which were entered to the races.
Beside the already known cars of the Exige and Open Class, an absolutely unique Lotus 1.6, driven by Benedek Major and developed by GFS, has taken part in the competitions.
Marcus Nikowitch had to enter the Production Class with a unique Elise, because of the damages of his Exige.
The car of Peter Entenfellner and Andreas Holzleithner had technical problems so they had to skip the race. Michael Seemüller was the first entrant to the Lotus 2-Eleven Class on this weekend.
Tamás Vizin (2:15.105) won against Tomas Kusy (2:15.410) at the timing on Friday and they were in the centre of attention during the whole weekend. We could watch the same battle from the first lap till the last, Vizin and Kusy reached the finishline gaining upon each other. Vizin won the race against Kusy with 0,9 seconds. The struggle for the third place between Klaus Requat and Moritz Hannapel was very tight as well, but at the end Requat finished the race as third. Hannapel took 4th place and he was followed by Markus Nikowitsch, Michael Seemüller and Benedek Major. Egon Burkus was forced to give up the race, regarding electronic problems.
Vizin Tamás (first place): It was a very good race, I enjoyed it a lot. There was a little shake-up at the beginning because I managed to start very good, but then I saw a lot of yellow flags and thought there was something wrong ahead of us. I decreased speed, and although it has not turned out to be a very good idea, I still managed to overcome Tomas in the end. The takeover was very interesting, because he turned on the outer line of the last turn, while I was on the inside. We were next to each other, him ahead only by a couple of centimeters, but I managed to draft so well that I took over, even though his car is faster in straight lines. He needed to fault so I could get by him, but it can happen often if you are trying to go fast. I had some stir on my end as well, because the tires worn out by the end, as they couldn’t stand the heat. There were some moments when I tried to go slower, to conserve them in order to last till the end, and they were within an ace of worning out, but I did it in the end.
On Sunday, the drivers continued where they left off on Saturday, however Tomas Kusy managed to hasten the pace, and won the race even though he spun once along the way. Vizin kept the second place, this time ahead of Moritz Hannapel. Requat came in before Seemüller and Burkus at fourth place after Saturday’s podium. Major Benedek and Markus Nikowitch were unable to finish the race.
Vizin Tamás (second place): “I don’t know what happened. I ran the lap times that I could achieve with this car. I was 0.3 faster than the best I did at practice. Yesteday I was one second faster than Kusy, and now he was ahead of me with 2,3 in his best lap. We’ll continue this at Hungaroring. That track is better, because it’s a bit more technical, so it might give me some advantage, because it will probably narrow down the power difference, for now he just left me standing at takeovers.”
A Lotus Cup Eastern Europe idei negyedik hétvégéje előrelépést jelentett, hisz 9 autó nevezett a futamokra. A megszokott Exige és Open Class autói mellett, egy igazi kuriózum is megjelent, a GFS által fejlesztett 1,6-os Lotus, Major Benedekkel a volánjánál. A Production Class-nak is volt versenyzője, igaz kényszerűségből. Markus Nikowitch autója (Lotus Exige) megsérült, így egy egyedi Elise-el állt rajthoz.
Peter Entenfellner és Andreas Holzleithner autója is meghibásodott az edzéseken, így nem tudtak elrajtolni. Michael Seemüller személyében már Lotus 2-Eleven indulója is volt a sorozatnak.
A pénteki időmérésen Vizin Tamás szerezte meg az első helyet (2:15.105) Tomas Kusy (2:15.410) előtt, és erről a párosról szólt a szombati verseny is. Az első helyért az utolsó körökig, a már megszokott küzdelmet láthattuk, Vizin és Kusy egymást előzgetve jutottak el a célig. Vizin Tamás 0,9 mp-el Kusy előtt nyerte a futamot. A harmadik helyért is szoros csata alakult ki Klaus Requat és Moritz Hannapel között, de végül Requat szerezte meg a harmadik helyet. A negyedik Hannapel-t az ötödik helyen Markus Nikowitch, a hatodikon Michael Seemüller, a hetediken Major Benedek követte. Burkus Egon feladni kényszerült a futamot elektronikai probléma miatt.
Vizin Tamás (1. hely): ?Nagyon jó verseny volt, nagyon élveztem. A rajtnál volt egy kis izgalom, sikerült jól elkapnom, de aztán nagyon sok sárga zászlót láttam. Azt hittem valami komoly probléma van előttünk, ezért kicsit elvettem a gázt. Most már tudom, hogy nem volt jó ötlet. A végén aztán mégis sikerült Tomást megverni. Az előzés érdekes volt. Egy kicsit kívül fordult rá a célegyenesre, én pedig szűkebben. Egymás mellett mentünk, előbb volt vagy két méterrel miközben néhány centire mentem tőle és olyan szélárnyékot húzott, hogy képes voltam megelőzni annak ellenére, hogy az ő autója általában gyorsabb az egyenesekben. Kellett hozzá az is, hogy ő is hibázzon, de ez könnyen előfordul, ha az ember próbál gyorsan menni. Nálam is volt izgalom, mert a végére nagyon elmelegedtek a gumik, ezt a hőséget nem nagyon bírták ezek a gumik. Voltak pillanatok, amikor próbáltam óvatosabban menni, spórolni a gumival, hogy bírja ki a végéig. Nem sokan múlt, de sikerült. “
A vasárnapi futamon minden ott folytatódott, ahol a versenyzők szombaton abbahagyták. Ezúttal azonban Tomas Kusy nagyobb tempóra tudott kapcsolni, és úgy is megnyerte a futamot, hogy egyszer megpördült. Vizin a második helyet megtartotta, ezúttal Moritz Hannapel előtt. A szombati dobogós Requat a negyedik lett Seemüller és Burkus előtt. Major Benedek és Markus Nikowitch nem tudta befejezni a futamot.
Vizin Tamás (2. hely): ?Nem tudom, hogy mi történt. Én azt az időt autóztam, amit ezzel az autóval tudok. Három tizeddel voltam gyorsabb az edzésen elért időmből. Tegnap az edzésen adtam Kusynak egy másodpercet, most pedig 2,3-al volt jobb a leggyorsabb köre. Folyt. Köv. a Hungaroringen. Az a pálya annyival jobb, hogy kicsivel technikásabb, mint ez, hátha nem jött ki az erőkülönbség. Mert úgy előzött az egyenesben, hogy jött és ment.”

The third weekend of the Lotus Cup Eastern Europe was organized at the exceptionally fast and long SlovakiaRing. The spectators were able to observe the events on-line again and they became witnesses of very exciting battles.
Babyblau , the light blue Lotus, driven by Andreas Holzleithner, wasn’t able to take part in the qualification on Saturday because of technical problems.
As a surprise, Egon Burkus led the race on the wet asphalt, whose car had received a new back wing, but it is still not able to keep up with the leader board’s tempo. Finally Tomas Kusy took the lead and won the qualification. Tamás Vizin ended up in the 3. place and Klaus Requat in the 4.
The youngest driver of the race, Benedek Major (15) entered the competition with a 1,6 Lotus Elise Club Race, because his racing car will debute only at PannóniaRing. Though this car was far weaker than the others, he did a very good job and finished in the fifth place.
The fight for the first place between Tomas Kusy and Tamás Vizin was extremely spectacular. They changed position several times during the race but finally Kusy proved to be a better tactitian and he won the race by an advantage of only 1 second. The struggle for the third place was also very close. Klaus Requat and Egon Burkus changed place almost in each lap and their speed was almost equal too. Just only with a few meters tough, but Klaus Requat crossed the finish line before Egon Burkus and gained the third place.
Andreas Holzleithner proved to be the fastest at thequalification on Sunday, but unfortunately because of further technical problems he had to miss the race again. Klaus Requat wasn’t able to start the race either. Tomas Kusy and Tamás Vizin repeated the Saturday’s competition an d fought an even closer battle. Tomas Kusy crossed the finish line as first just 5 tenth of seconds before Tamás Vizin. What failed on Saturday, succeeded on Sunday: Egon Burkus finished the race in the third place, so he stood on the podium for the first time in this year.
Two months of pause follows, and the series will continue at the end of August at the PannóniRing, hopefully with a wider range of Lotus drivers.
Tomas Kusy nagyszerű csatában duplázott
A Lotus Cup Eastern Europe harmadik hétvégéje a rendkívül gyors és hosszú SlovakiaRing-en került megrendezésre. Újra élőben követhették a nézők az eseményeket, és rendkívül izgalmas csatákat láthattak. A szombati időmérésen nem tudott részt venni a babyblau, azaz a világoskék Lotus, Andreas Holzleithner műszaki gondok miatt, az egész szombati napot kihagyni kényszerült.
Meglepetésre a nedves aszfalton sokáig Burkus Egon vezetett, akinek az autója ugyan új hátsó szárnyat kapott, még nem tudja tartani az élmenők tempóját. Végül Tomas Kusy átvette a vezetést, és megnyerte az időmérőt. Vizin Tamás a harmadik, Klaus Requat a negyedik lett. A mezőny legfiatalabb tagja, Major Benedek (15) egy 1,6-os Lotus Elise Club Racer-el nevezett a versenybe, mert a versenyautója csak PannóniaRing-en debütál. Ezzel a jóval gyengébb autóval is tisztességesen helytállt, és az ötödik lett.
A szombati első versenyen két páros csata alakult ki, az első helyért Tomas Kusy és Vizin Tamás a célig tartó küzdelme rendkívül látványos volt. A verseny folyamán többször is helyet cseréltek, de végül Tomas Kusy jobban taktikázott, és 1mp-es előnnyel megnyerte a versenyt. A harmadik helyért szintén szoros volt a küzdelem. Klaus Requat és Burkus Egon szinte minden körbe helyet cserélt, tempójuk szinte azonos volt. Klaus Requat pár méterrel, de előbb ért célba, és megszerezte a nagyszerű harmadik helyet.
A vasárnapi második időmérésen Andreas Holzleithner bizonyult a leggyorsabbnak, sajnos azonban újabb műszaki problémák miatt a versenyről ismét hiányzott. Nem tudott rajthoz állni Klaus Requat sem. Az élen azonban a Tomas Kusy és Vizin Tamás páros pontosan lemásolta a szombati versenyt, és még szorosabb csatát vívott. A célba Tomas Kusy érkezett elsőként, mindössze 5 tized előnnyel Vizin Tamás előtt. Ami nem sikerült szombaton, az sikerült vasárnap, Burkus Egon szerezte meg a harmadik helyet, és idén először állhatott dobogóra.
Két hónap szünet következik, és remélhetőleg nagyobb létszámmal, augusztus végén folytatódik a sorozat a PannóniaRing-en.

There was no significant change on the second race of the Lotus Cup Eastern Europe. Peter Entenfell- ner built up a significant vantage and no one could keep up with him. Tama?s Vizin had a better start than Tomas Kusy and they showed an exciting struggle through laps to the visitors. Egon Burkus could follow them quite long but he had to slow down because his brakes overheated.
Kusy overtook on Vizin and managed to keep this position, the second place after Peter Entenfell- ner, so Vizin was able to finish the competition only at the 3rd place.
At the first part of the last lap Egon Burkus shocked the viewers with a hair-raising stunt, when he suddenly pulled across his car and after several turns he managed to stop it only a few centimeters away from the tire wall. This was the only way he was able to stop his car because at the speed of 220 km/h his brake fell in. He finished the race rolling at the 4th place.

A Lotus Cup Eastern Europe második versenyén jelentős változás nem történt az élen. Peter Entenfellner újra jelentős előnyt dolgozott ki, és nem tudta senki megközelíteni. Vizin Tamás lerajtolta Tomas Kusy-t és körökig izgalmas csatát mutattak be a kilátogató, szépszámú közönségnek. Burkus Egon sokáig tartotta velük a lépést, de végül lassabb tempóra kényszerült, a fékei túlmelegedtek.
Kusy megelőzte Vizin-t és ezt a pozíciót már meg is tartotta a célig, azaz Peter Entenfellner mögött a második helyen érkezett, így Vizin Tamás újra a harmadik helyre állhatott fel a dobogón.
Burkus Egon az utolsó kör elején hajmeresztő mutatvánnyal borzolta a kedélyeket, a fékpedálja szó szerint beesett, így a célegyenes végén 220 km/h tempónál csak úgy tudta megállítani a kocsiját, hogy keresztbe rántotta azt, és többször megpördülve, pár centivel állt csak meg a gumifal előtt. A versenyt végül, ha gurulva is, de befejezte a negyedik helyen.
A Lotus Cup Eastern Europe június 24.-26.-a között a Slovakiaring-en folytatódik, ahonnan újra élő video közvetítésben jelentkezünk.
